Trong Gia Nguyen is a Vietnamese-American artist living and working in Brussels, Belgium. He has exhibited internationally in numerous solo and group exhibitions, regularly overlapping into other disciplines such as dance, theater, music, performance, and fashion. He has received grants and residencies from prominent entities including the Museum of Arts & Design (New York, USA), Gate 27 (Istanbul, Turkey), Cannonball (Miami, USA), LMCC (New York, USA), and Bronx Museum of the Arts (USA). As a curator, Trong has organized over 25 exhibitions, including the inaugural TechNoPhobe at the Factory Centre for Contemporary Arts in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam (2016) and The All Florida Show at Boca Raton Museum of Art, Florida, USA (2013). From 2005-07 he founded and directed New General Catalog, a gallery in Brooklyn, NY that was devoted to showing experimental work by emerging and underserved artists. Trong’s background also includes having worked for museums, private art dealers, galleries, and arts initiatives like Artist Pension Trust, Zabriskie Gallery (NY, USA), and Contemporary Art Museum (Tampa, FL, USA). He has served on the boards and panels of organizations that include Fashion in Film Festival, Elizabeth Foundation for the Arts, and Dar Kawa Artist in Residence. As a critic and writer, Trong has worked as a senior editor at ArtSlant, in addition to having written for Art21, NY Arts Magazine, CoboSocial, Brussels Magazine, and more. Trong has also guest-lectured and serve on discussion panels at CUE Foundation (New York, USA), School of Visual Arts (New York, USA), Columbia University (New York, USA), Catalyst Foundation (Washington, DC, USA), Reykjavik Art Academy (Iceland), Riga Center for Contemporary Art (Latvia), Goethe Institut (Hanoi, Vietnam), and many others.
